PAN Y CEBOLLA
- Many layers but no heart
This work is inspired by the equation contigo, pan y cebolla"(engl:with you, bread and onions) which is equivalent with the german expression “ von Luft & Liebe leben". The passionate connotation and immaterial essence of this popular saying were the starting point for the collaboration. Peeling the onion to the point of tears to abandon the many skins of memory, searching for the semiotics of unconditional love. Notions like negotiating distances, observation & defining as a reductive way of relating are explored in this work. The dichotomy between the emptiness and the hunger, the dilemmas of language, body and desires are the main drive for this project. An extreme form of this conflict is cannibalism: a territorializing relationship where the victim becomes an object of desire.
Consuming to express love is an action that involves themes of death, food, sacrifice, aggression, love, and destruction or transformation of human others.
This project was initiated by Sweet and Tender Collaborations/SKITe, with the generous support of PAF, Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary, National Fund for the Arts and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Mexico.
Collaboration on Video with Ramona Poenaru, Tim Darbyshire and Pavlos Kountouriotis.
